Moving Adventures

I'm posting this long after it happened, but whatever - things we have to remember!

So, when we were packing up our ABF truck in NY, we didn't have a lot of time. We ended up with quite a bit of packing left to do 3 hours before we midnight on the last day of the month - the end of our contract! It wasn't pretty - but we did it. We had the awesome N family watch the boys for a little while at the H's house and kicked things into high gear. The members of our church were definitely our family out there, and we can never thank them enough.

Well, at about 11pm we started noticing lots of sirens, and a helicopter in the sky spotting something. We figured there must be a chase - but like I said, we were in a time crunch. However, pretty soon we heard the sirens at the bottom of our street - and suddenly there was a dump truck driving up our street at about 55 mph, spotted by the helicopter. This would have merely been a kind of scary, yet exciting adventure - except for the fact that our moving truck was parked on one side of the street, and our only car parked on the other. Pmc was in the back of the moving truck and I was on the porch. There was definite terror about how this would end. Either our moving truck was getting hit, or our car. Ugh. However, by no small miracle (I'm sure we didn't even have time to say a prayer other than "Oh help!"), both were spared. That dump truck somehow made it through - followed by, count them, TWELVE cop cars. Seriously. That got our adrenaline rushing. In fact, it's probably what got us going fast enough to get that truck loaded.

At about 11:45pm (when we were sticking the last of our stuff in our neighbor's garage so we could take it to goodwill the next morning), after continuing to hear the chase go all over our neighborhood, that dump truck turned back up our street AGAIN! This time all the neighbors were out on the street to watch the mere six cop cars following it - and to witness a second miracle of our car and moving truck being spared (we had time to pray this time - we knew what was coming!).

At 12:15am when we had thoroughly discussed the whole event with all our neighbors, we finally pulled out of the driveway to go to the H family's house to sleep. However, as we drove, we discovered the ending to the police chase. I'm sure at least half of our "village within the city" neighborhood were standing on the corner to find out what happened. Apparently the guy had just gotten out of jail the week before, and had stolen the truck. They had finally ended up shooting the guy to get him to stop. I guess they didn't do any barricades because, hey, it was a dump truck!

Farewell to Syracuse NY huh?
